VP Senior Software Engineer – Java & Distributed Systems

About the Role

We're looking for a senior engineer who thinks clearly across the full product development lifecycle, from design through to production, and brings an AI-first mindset to how they work.

This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role with room to grow over time for the right person. You'll design, build, and ship real systems while setting an example for engineering quality - writing code and making architectural calls that others can learn from, not just talking about best practices.

What You'll Do

• Design and build backend services end to end - from requirements and architecture through implementation, testing, and delivery
• Apply strong engineering fundamentals: clean design, sound architecture, and a quality-first mindset in everything you build
• Champion openness and discoverability in your work - clear documentation, readable code, and decisions others can easily follow
• Use AI tools as a natural part of your daily workflow to work faster and better
• Review code and mentor engineers around you by example - through the quality of your work and how you approach problems
• Stay organized and dependable, able to take ownership of problems and drive them to resolution
• Quickly learn new parts of the stack or domain as needed, and bring that same adaptability to the team

Must-Have

• 6+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Working knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases
• A quick-learning, adaptable approach to new technology and problems
• An AI-first mindset - comfortable using AI tools as part of daily engineering work
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to take ownership and lead by example
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience

Nice-to-Have

• 10+ years of experience, including architecture/design-level ownership
• Experience with microservices or event-driven architecture
• Front-end development experience (Angular, React, or similar)
• Experience with cloud-native or containerized environments
• Exposure to test automation practices
• Experience in financial services or other regulated industries
