CALIBRE is seeking a Financial Counselor to support the Army Transition Assistance Program (TAP). The Financial Counselor provides professional financial counseling and instruction to transitioning Service members and eligible clients, helping them understand their current financial condition, prepare for life after military service, and develop realistic financial strategies to support long-term success. This position plays a critical role in ensuring clients are financially prepared to navigate the transition from military to civilian life.

The successful candidate will deliver individual counseling and group instruction on topics including budgeting, debt management, credit, taxes, insurance, retirement planning, military benefits, and financial readiness. The Financial Counselor will work closely with Transition Counselors, installation personnel, and community partners to ensure clients receive comprehensive support and access to appropriate resources throughout their transition journey.

Summary

The Financial Counselor provides certified financial counseling and instruction to transitioning Service members and eligible clients. The position helps clients assess their financial readiness, develop transition budgets and financial plans, understand changes in compensation and benefits, and make informed decisions regarding their financial future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver individual financial counseling and group instruction using approved Army and Department of Defense financial readiness curriculum and guidance.
  • Assess client financial readiness, identify financial risk indicators, and assist clients in developing practical transition budgets and post-separation financial plans.
  • Educate clients on cash flow management, budgeting, debt management, credit, taxes, insurance, emergency savings, retirement planning, and financial goal setting.
  • Explain financial considerations associated with employment, education, relocation, housing, healthcare, family transitions, and civilian benefits.
  • Review financial plans and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with Army TAP requirements and Career Readiness Standards.
  • Refer clients to appropriate military, Government, nonprofit, and community financial resources when needs extend beyond the scope of services provided.
  • Document counseling sessions, instruction, assessments, referrals, and completion status accurately and within established timelines.
  • Coordinate with Transition Counselors, Contract Installation Managers, installation personnel, and partner organizations to ensure integrated client support and continuity of service.
  • Support virtual, in-person, mobile, and surge delivery requirements based on workload and client demand.
  • Maintain professional credentials and complete all required training, quality reviews, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
  • Strong financial counseling and client advisory skills.
  • Ability to explain complex financial concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to deliver effective one-on-one counseling and classroom instruction.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to assess client needs and develop practical financial solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required Government suitability, installation access, Common Access Card (CAC), and system access.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of military financial readiness programs and transition assistance services.
  • Familiarity with military compensation, retirement systems, survivor benefits, VA benefits, and education benefits.
  • Knowledge of Career Readiness Standards and Army TAP requirements.
  • Ability to support clients with diverse financial backgrounds and transition circumstances.
  • Experience providing virtual counseling and instruction.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Current nationally recognized financial counseling, financial planning, financial coaching, or financial education certification appropriate to the position.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience providing financial counseling or advising individuals on budgeting, debt management, credit, taxes, benefits, financial resources, or life-cycle financial planning.
  • Experience supporting the Army Transition Assistance Program or similar workforce development and career readiness programs.
  • Experience conducting individual counseling sessions and group instruction.
  • Experience documenting client interactions, maintaining records, and managing caseloads in a professional environment.

Preferred Experience

  • AFC®, CFP®, ChFC®, CPA, or other nationally recognized financial counseling or planning credential.
  • Experience supporting military financial readiness, personal financial management, transition assistance, veterans, or military families.
  • Knowledge of military compensation, retirement benefits, survivor benefits, VA benefits, education benefits, and post-service financial planning.
  • Experience supporting Army, Department of Defense, or other Federal workforce readiness programs.
  • Experience delivering services in both in-person and virtual environments.
