Software Product Owner
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a talented and motivated Product Owner to join our dynamic team. In your role as Product Owner, you will lead the strategic execution of your team. You will serve as the primary authority on scope and "Go/No-Go" decisions, collaborating with engineering leadership to manage the release.
Responsibilities:
- Feature Decomposition & Technical Mapping:
- Work directly with the Program Chief Engineer and Chief Architect to break down high-level mission capabilities into discrete technical features.
- Engineering Readiness & Context:
- Eliminate architectural ambiguity for the development teams. You must provide the "technical tissue" for every story, including defined API contracts and data flow diagrams, ensuring developers can start coding without stopping for clarification.
- Backlog Execution:
- Own and groom the backlog for your team. You are responsible for ensuring stories are granular, technically sound, and meet strict Definition of Ready (DoR) and Definition of Done (DoD) standards before they hit a sprint.
- Sprint Operations:
- Lead daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives. You are the first line of defense for the team; work closely with the Lead Engineer to aggressively clear technical blockers.
- Requirement Validation:
- Act as the final check on implemented features. Ensure that the delivered code actually meets the mission intent and matches the original feature decomposition before closing out stories.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Active TS/SCI U.S. Government Security Clearance
- B.S. degree or higher in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) field and 7+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree in STEM with 5+ years of experience
- 3+ years as a Technical Product Owner or Team Lead in an Agile environment
- Excellent technical & nontechnical communication skills
- Writing, deriving, and communicating requirements to internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to brief technical and nontechnical audiences on development progress, risks & opportunities, proposals for new features, etc.
- Ability to communicate system design via SysML, UML/Entity Relationship Diagrams, or equivalent System Modelling tools
- Technical Knowledge:
- Must have a working knowledge of modern software stacks. Understand how CI/CD pipelines and microservice architectures impact the pace and sequencing of feature delivery.
- Experience with at least one cloud technology platform such as AWS, Azure, etc.
- Agile Stack:
- Proficiency in GitLab for issue tracking, milestone management, and boards
- Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite: Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence.
- Experience with both Scrum and Kanban agile methodologies, along with understanding of when to use each
Desired:
- Direct experience in Defense, Aerospace, or GovTech domains
- Direct experience in one or more mission areas:
- GEOINT mission planning and processing
- Satellite command and control systems
- Advanced mission and payload planning for satellite operations
- Expert-level proficiency in GitLab for issue tracking, milestone management, and boards (or equivalent experience in Jira/ADO)
- Certification as a Professional Scrum Product Owner or equivalent
