Short Summary:
Burkland is seeking a Sr. Tax Associate, R&D to optimize in-house R&D offerings, conduct technical interviews, perform tax research, and calculate R&D Tax Credits. This role involves managing multiple client engagements in a remote-first environment.
Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day responsibilities on R&D Tax Credit and Sec. 174/Sec. 174A engagements.
- Conduct virtual interviews with clients to document applicability for the R&D credit.
- Produce technical reports reflecting client interviews.
- Prepare and review work papers, deliverables, and tax forms.
- Identify R&D opportunities for clients through detailed analysis.
- Supervise and mentor R&D Tax Associates.
- Assist in managing engagement economics, including budgeting and billing.
- Act as Power of Attorney on behalf of clients in IRS meetings.
- Balance multiple client engagements and priorities.
- Participate in business development activities.
- Stay current on tax law developments related to the R&D credit.
Requirement:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in R&D tax.
- CPA, EA, or in progress preferred; Attorney also considered.
- Experience with Kipsi R&D tax software is a plus.
- Intermediate-to-advanced Excel skills; experience with Alteryx or Power BI is a plus.
- Strong analytical, research, organizational, and communication skills.
- Comfortable working independently in a fully remote setting.
