Title: Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Legacy Operations & Cloud Modernization) Location: Remote (USA)

MissionOne Media is a brand within BarkleyOKRP that combines full-funnel media planning and buying services, CRM, data, analytics, retail media, SEO, and digital experiences. We're an independent media partner offering transparency, integration, and a relentless focus on business impact.

We're looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to act as the operational backbone of our engineering team. The initial focus of this role is to take operational ownership of our legacy environment, while helping shape the architecture and strategy for our future-facing projects.

You'll ensure the stability, security, and high availability of our core production VMs running Java/Tomcat applications and MySQL 5.7 instances. You'll manage incidents, diagnose root causes, tune performance, and keep these critical legacy systems stable.

At the same time, you'll partner with us on our long-term growth. We're actively developing multiple new products and services on modern tech stacks and need someone who can balance maintaining legacy reliability with helping us design and scale our next-generation cloud architecture.

Responsibilities:

Incident Response & Operational Stability: Own the incident management lifecycle for production. Triage alerts, troubleshoot OS-level bottlenecks, debug performance issues, and drive rapid root-cause analysis.
Performance Monitoring & Debugging: Actively monitor system performance, application logs, and resource health using modern observability platforms (such as Observe by Snowflake) to quickly diagnose and resolve operational issues.
Legacy Infrastructure Management: Proactively maintain, patch, and secure our existing virtual machines on GCP.
Legacy Database Operations & Health: Monitor MySQL 5.7 instances, manage backups, and troubleshoot connection pool exhaustion or locking issues.
Cloud Architecture & Modernization: Collaborate to design, provision, and scale forward-looking cloud infrastructure for our new products and services, incorporating modern cloud-native tools and managed services (such as Cloud SQL and BigQuery).
Automation & Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): Gradually replace manual operational tasks with clean automation scripts and infrastructure tools to reduce toil and improve repeatability.
Security & Compliance: Ensure systems comply with enterprise security baselines through rigorous OS hardening, access controls, and vulnerability patching.

Qualificiations:

Experience: 5+ years in a System Administration, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Infrastructure Operations role within an enterprise environment.
Legacy Stack Mastery:

Deep expertise in Linux administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting (including storage and file system management, specifically ZFS).
Proven experience running, tuning, and debugging Java/Tomcat applications in production.
Strong working knowledge of MySQL 5.7, including query tuning, replication, backup/restore strategies, and migration troubleshooting.
Proficiency in shell scripting and writing lightweight automation (Bash)

Cloud & Modernization Experience:

Practical experience with Google Cloud Platform and managed services, including operational databases (Cloud SQL) and data warehousing platforms (BigQuery).
Production experience architecting and running containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes to support new product stacks.
Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform) and modern CI/CD deployment workflows.

Mindset & Soft Skills:

Calm under pressure: A methodical, safety-first approach to live-site incident response.
Pragmatic problem solver: You understand the realities of legacy software and prefer practical, stable solutions over chasing unproven tech fads.
Strong communication skills to collaborate with developers and stakeholders during high-stakes migrations or outages.

Ideal Experience / But Not Required:

Familiarity with Java development, enabling you to read application code, assist developers with debugging, or understand internal stack traces more deeply.
Experience with transitioning legacy tech stacks to modern GCP / cloud-native setups.

The annual gross base salary range is $90,000 - $150,000USD. This range represents the anticipated target salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and are based on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and geographic location. Salary is one component of BarkleyOKRP's total compensation package, which includes multiple health insurance options, flexible PTO, life insurance, and 401K.
