Title: Quality Engineer Location: Torrance, CA

What we’re building

The marine industry supports recreation, global commerce, and national defense. And yet it runs on technology that hasn't meaningfully changed in fifty years. Until now.
Arc is on a mission to electrify the marine industry. We're rethinking powertrains, software, and vessel designs from first principles. And we're already executing. We started with consumers to develop and harden our core technology. We’re now scaling production of our flagship model with new models and sectors on the horizon. Now we’re extending our platform to commercial applications, starting with tugs, ferries, and defense, with years worth of signed contracts and a pipeline that spans every vessel type on the water.

The technology is proven, the momentum is building, and the opportunity is enormous. The marine industry is going electric and Arc is building the platform that powers it

Who we’re looking for

As Arc's Quality Engineer, you will own the quality of the parts we buy and the boats we build. That means qualifying and managing our supplier base, running day-to-day quality execution on the production floor, and driving non-conformances to root cause so the same problem never comes back twice.

We're looking for someone fired up by the mission and ready to build. You'll thrive here if you move fast, take ownership, and care about the details.

This is a full-time, on-site role at our Los Angeles headquarters.

What You'll Do

  • Owning supplier quality for electromechanical hardware including wire harnesses, electronic assemblies, batteries, powertrain components, and related systems
  • Defining incoming inspection plans and acceptance criteria, and running receiving quality on purchased parts
  • Qualifying new suppliers and manufacturing processes through FAI, PPAP/APQP, process audits, capability studies, and production readiness reviews
  • Driving supplier non-conformances from containment through root cause and permanent corrective action using structured and documented problem solving approaches
  • Reviewing electrical schematics, harness drawings, engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, and inspection data to establish clear acceptance criteria
  • Establishing quality metrics and methods for tracking quality issues in production
  • Partnering directly with engineering and suppliers to resolve design, manufacturability, and quality issues during new product introduction and production ramp
  • Building Arc's supplier quality processes from the ground up, including incoming inspection, supplier metrics, quality standards, and escalation mechanisms
  • Dispositioning non-conforming material through the Material Review Board (use / rework / return / scrap)
  • Traveling 50%+ to supplier sites to support qualification, production ramp, audits, issue resolution, and corrective action

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or related Engineering discipline with 3+ years of experience in supplier, manufacturing, or quality engineering
  • Strong technical foundation in electromechanical hardware, including the ability to read electrical schematics, wiring and harness drawings, engineering drawings and GD&T, and understand common electrical and mechanical manufacturing and inspection methods
  • Hands-on experience driving supplier quality using tools such as FAI, PPAP/APQP, PFMEA, control plans, SCAR/8D, root cause analysis, and process capability; willing and able to travel 50%+ to supplier sites
  • Comfortable reading engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and offsite — including supplier sites — as needed
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 lbs

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience working with or within a quality management system (e.g., ISO 9001)
  • Experience standing up supplier quality processes from the ground up
  • CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) or similar certification
  • Experience with wire harness manufacturing, including crimping, splicing, shielding, sealing, continuity testing, pull testing, and IPC/WHMA-A-620
  • Experience with electronics manufacturing, including PCBA assembly, soldering, conformal coating, ESD controls, IPC-A-610, or J-STD-001
  • Experience with batteries, high-voltage systems, power electronics, BMS, contactors, busbars, connectors, or other EV powertrain hardware
  • Familiarity with electrical test methods including continuity, resistance, insulation resistance, hipot, ground bonding, and basic electrical test equipment
  • Strong dimensional inspection knowledge including CMMs, gauges, tolerance stack-ups, GR&R/MSA, Cp/Cpk, SPC, and statistical sampling
  • Experience with machining, molding, casting, sheet metal, welding, adhesives, potting, or other electromechanical manufacturing processes
  • Experience standing up supplier quality systems or processes in a fast-moving hardware organization
  • Comfortable pushing at a fast but sustainable pace
  • Enthusiasm for boating and the water

At Arc, we encourage diversity and consider all qualified applicants equally for employment, regardless of background, identity, or status. You’re always welcome to reach out even if you don’t meet many of these qualifications. Passion and aptitude make up for a lot.
