Manager, Data Migration
Role title: Manager, Data Migration
Salary range: $90,000 - $125,000 USD
Location: Remote - US - Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta
The opportunity
Applied is building the connective intelligence that moves insurance. Every function contributes to that work. In this role, you will lead a team of Data Migration Engineers who move customer data from competitor and legacy systems into Applied Systems SaaS products.
As a people leader within Data Services, the Manager sets priorities, adapts plans when resources or operations shift, and makes sure customers get high quality migration outcomes. You guide your team on technical work and partner with Onboarding and Success Services, Development, Operations, Solution Services, and Support to deliver complex, end-to-end projects.
This role works hand in hand with a global Data Services team using a Follow the Sun delivery model. You will keep work moving across regions and time zones, hand off cleanly, and step in when a project needs extra attention. You work within established policies, procedures, and business plans, and you take direction from your senior leader. Success here takes steady judgment, clear communication, and a coaching mindset as tools, platforms, and processes keep evolving.
What you’ll own
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Data Migration Engineers, including regular 1:1s, goal setting, performance reviews, and corrective action or performance improvement plans when needed
- Own the team’s performance and results, using project data, quality dashboards, and workload metrics to track progress and guide improvement
- Provide technical guidance to your team, colleagues, and customers on data migration approaches, including script review, scope review, and troubleshooting complex issues
- Adapt priorities and project plans when resources, timelines, or operational needs change, so the team works on what matters most
- Monitor projects daily and weekly, spot risks early, and step in on escalations and project fires across Slack, Jira, and email
- Review and approve script requests, development tickets, and post-activation scripts, following Data Services policies and procedures
- Support quality control by monitoring quality boards and dashboards, and by driving fixes when issues show up
- Monitor and manage team costs, including timesheets, additional compensation, and weekend coverage hours
- Recommend changes to Data Services policies, processes, and tooling, and keep documentation current as those changes roll out
- Partner with Development, Operations, and cloud and engineering teams to resolve defects, escalate infrastructure issues, and shape new or evolving solutions
- Work with fellow managers, supervisors, and functional peers to align schedules, resources, and handoffs across regions and time zones
- Explain complex technical information clearly to audiences who know the subject, and present project and program updates that build cooperation across teams
- Take part in the management rotation for weekend coverage, including monitoring live merges and go/no-go decisions
- Help advance department initiatives, including adopting cloud-based data platforms such as BigQuery and intelligent tooling that improves migration speed, scalability, and quality
What you’ll bring
- Experience leading or mentoring technical teams, with a track record of coaching people, setting clear goals, and handling performance conversations with care
- Strong working knowledge of database structures and SQL, with enough depth to review scripts and guide engineers through complex migration, integration, or transformation work
- Solid understanding of ETL concepts, data mapping, and data quality best practices
- Hands-on experience with SaaS data migration or ETL initiatives in a production environment
- Ability to manage multiple competing project timelines and adjust plans quickly, while keeping customers and quality front and center
- Comfort leading in a collaborative, global environment where work moves across regions and time zones
- Clear and effective communication skills, including the ability to explain technical topics, present to peers and stakeholders, and gain cooperation across teams and with customers during escalations
- Sound judgment and the ability to make decisions within established policies and business plans, while staying calm when priorities change
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
What could set you apart
- Experience or exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including BigQuery and Cloud Storage
- Experience introducing automation, scripting, or AI-assisted tools to improve data analysis, migration, or quality assurance
- Experience with insurance technology or agency management systems
- Experience using Jira, Confluence, Slack, or similar tools to track work, collaborate across teams, and document processes
- Experience with HR and workforce tools such as UKG for timekeeping and performance management
