Job Description
The Project & Portfolio Management Manager for Client Legal Services Legal Operations is responsible for leading the portfolio management function that organizes, prioritizes, governs, and delivers Client Legal Services operational and technology initiatives. This role manages employees and/or frontline supervisors responsible for project management, program coordination, portfolio intake, delivery governance, stakeholder communication, dependency management, and executive-level reporting across low to high complexity initiatives.The Manager is accountable for the performance and results of the project and portfolio management team and may also directly lead strategic Client Legal Services programs with significant organizational span, business complexity, risk, interdependencies, and leadership visibility. This role partners across Client Legal Services, Legal Operations, ATS, Claims, HR, Finance, communications, and other business partners to translate business needs into structured delivery plans, portfolio decisions, and measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Strategy, Intake & Prioritization
· Lead the Client Legal Services Legal Operations project and portfolio management function, including portfolio intake, triage, prioritization, sequencing, and roadmap visibility.
· Establish and maintain portfolio governance routines that help Client Legal Services leadership evaluate demand, capacity, strategic value, operational impact, risk, dependencies, and timing.
· Partner with Client Legal Services leaders and business partners to clarify business objectives, expected outcomes, success measures, resource needs, and decision points for new and active initiatives.
· Develop portfolio views, prioritization summaries, scorecards, status updates, and executive-ready materials that support transparent decision-making.
· Identify portfolio risks, resource constraints, overlapping efforts, and dependency conflicts; recommend tradeoffs and escalation paths to support effective delivery.
Project & Program Delivery Management
· Manage teams responsible for low to high complexity Client Legal Services projects and programs, ensuring delivery plans are clear, actionable, and aligned with business priorities.
· Direct strategic Client Legal Services initiatives and programs with significant business complexity, organizational span, project interdependencies, stakeholder visibility, and operational risk.
· Drive project execution through structured planning, milestone tracking, decision documentation, issue resolution, dependency management, and stakeholder alignment.
· Assign projects to staff according to experience, ability, capacity, and development goals; monitor progress and provide guidance and coaching where necessary.
· Customize delivery approaches for complex issues involving Legal, ATS, Claims, Finance, HR, communications, technology partners, and other enterprise stakeholders.
Governance, Communication & Steering Committees
· Drive agendas and facilitate project, program, and portfolio steering committee meetings, ensuring decisions, risks, actions, and leadership asks are clearly documented.
· Represent the Client Legal Services project portfolio in governance, prioritization, gating, leadership, and operational forums.
· Communicate project and portfolio status, risks, decisions, dependencies, and recommendations in a clear and simplified manner for leadership and business partners.
· Build strong cross-department relationships to drive achievement of department business goals and reduce delivery friction.
· Demonstrate mastery of project management and communication best practices and contribute to improving these practices within CLS Legal Operations.
Portfolio Standards, Tools & Continuous Improvement
· Develop and continuously improve standard project management templates, intake forms, delivery artifacts, status reporting routines, portfolio dashboards, governance calendars, and escalation processes.
· Create consistent project and portfolio management practices that improve transparency, accountability, prioritization discipline, and delivery predictability.
· Partner with Business Analysts, Data & Analytics, Operational Support, Technology Adoption, Training, and Process Redesign teams to ensure project work is aligned from intake through implementation and sustainment.
· Identify and spearhead process improvements that increase the efficiency and quality of the project and portfolio management team and the broader Client Legal Services Legal Operations function.
Leadership & Team Development
· Select, lead, counsel, develop, and motivate project and portfolio management team members.
· Set performance expectations, coach project management techniques, and lead by example in raising the level of performance of direct reports and project teams.
· Demonstrate thought leadership in problem solving, staff development, portfolio discipline, stakeholder engagement, and effective interaction with senior management.
· Foster a delivery culture grounded in ownership, clarity, collaboration, accountability, and business value realization.
Requirements
Experience
7 or more years of experience in project management, program management, portfolio management, legal operations, business operations, technology delivery, or related disciplines.

Compensation offered for this role is 110,000.00 - 181,025.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation.
