Senior Business Intelligence Developer - Aliz - Career Page

About Aliz

Aliz is a data and AI consultancy and a Google Cloud partner. We help large enterprises modernise their data estates - designing and building governed cloud data platforms and the reporting, analytics and AI capabilities on top of them. We work as an embedded partner to our clients' teams, combining deep engineering with hands-on enablement so that capability stays with the client after we leave.

The role

We are looking for a Senior BI Developer to move a large enterprise client’s legacy reports onto a new, governed Google Cloud data platform. You will inventory existing reports with their owners, decide what to migrate, rebuild them on governed data, and run them alongside the old ones until users trust the new numbers. You will work in a small BI team led by a BI Architect.

This is a hands-on, client-facing role for someone who is equally comfortable modelling a semantic layer, facilitating a decision workshop with senior stakeholders, and writing the recommendation that a steering committee signs off.

What you'll do

• Inventory and triage legacy reports. Work with report owners and consumers to build a validated list of the reports each department uses.
• Migration and building. Build the migrated reports in the corporate BI tool (Looker or Qlik) based on BigQuery models.
• Retire and hand over. Decommission accepted legacy reports, document each migrated report, and train its users.
• Protect trust and compliance. Ensure reporting honours governed KPI definitions and enforces data-protection controls (column-level security / policy tags on sensitive data).
• Partner across the programme. Work closely with data engineers, data product owners, data governance stewards and business stakeholders; translate business questions into governed, performant BI.

What we're looking for

Must-have

• 4+ years of experience in business intelligence.
• Deep hands-on expertise with at least one enterprise BI platform (Looker/LookML, Qlik, Power BI or Tableau).
• Strong SQL and experience working on a cloud data warehouse (BigQuery preferred; Snowflake, Redshift or similar also relevant).
• Semantic / metrics modelling and a track record of enabling business self-service BI.
• Awareness of data governance in a BI context: governed KPI definitions, metric ownership, cataloguing, and access / PII controls.
• Fluent English written and spoken.

Nice-to-have

• Experience migrating or rebuilding existing reports and reconciling against legacy output.
• Excellent stakeholder management - able to run workshops, align competing views, and produce decision-grade recommendations for senior audiences.
• Experience selecting or migrating BI tooling, especially off legacy platforms (e.g. SAP BusinessObjects, MicroStrategy, Cognos).
• Familiarity with the modern data stack: dbt, orchestration (e.g. Airflow), and data cataloguing / governance tooling (e.g. Dataplex, Collibra).
• Google Cloud and/or Looker certifications.
• Consulting or client-facing delivery background.
• Exposure to large enterprise or retail data estates.
• Interest in conversational / AI-assisted analytics on governed data.
• Openness to growing into adjacent roles over time (e.g. data engineering, solution architecture) as your interests and the business evolve.

What we offer

• High-impact, senior role shaping the BI capability on large enterprise data-platform programmes.
• A remote-first, flexible working culture with a collaborative, expert team.
• Work on a modern Google Cloud data stack alongside strong data engineers and architects.
• Continuous learning, certification support, and room to grow into BI architecture or practice leadership.
• Competitive compensation and benefits.
