Research Associate

We're hiring a Research Associate to run day-to-day lab operations and execute hands-on experiments – including mammalian cell culture, drug response assays, and data analysis - alongside managing safety protocols, equipment, and inventory. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable balancing bench work with lab management in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The Research Associate, Laboratory Operations, will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities and tasks in our laboratory and contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapies targeting oncology, metabolic, and autoimmune disorders. This includes laboratory safety, ordering, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, and performing in vitro experiments to characterize responses to drug exposure. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment at the nexus of basic research and therapeutic innovation to develop transformative therapies aimed at addressing unmet medical needs for patients who need it most.

The primary responsibilities of the Research Associate, Laboratory Operations include, but are not limited to:

Laboratory Operations

• Oversee the daily safety operations of the laboratory to ensure adherence to safety standards and protocols
• Develop, implement, monitor, and audit laboratory safety and regulatory policies
• Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, including equipment maintenance, calibration schedules, and troubleshooting
• Maintain laboratory inventories (freezers, compounds, etc.)
• Manage and maintain routine services (e.g., laboratory coat laundering, CO2 and N2 tanks drop-offs/pickups, annual inspections, biohazard waste pickup)
• Manage receipt and scheduling of shipments
• Manage purchasing and pay invoices for office and laboratory equipment and supplies
• Train new hires on lab safety and operations
• Assist with administrative office tasks, new R&D team member onboarding  

Experimental Work

• Perform routine mammalian cell culture, including passaging, seeding, cryopreservation, and contamination monitoring
• Design and execute laboratory experiments testing the effect of therapeutic agents on human cells in culture
• Design and execute analytical and biochemical assays to assess enzyme function, cell biology, and cellular metabolism in response to drug exposure
• Analyze experimental data and prepare summaries for team discussion
• Prepare compounds (small molecules drug candidates) and manage compound inventory
• Maintain careful, accurate, and well-organized documentation of all experimental protocols, conditions, and results
• Collaborate closely with other scientists and lab members to plan experiments, troubleshoot issues, and share findings
• Provide scientific assistance to other members of the team

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or related field
• 1+ years of experience working in a laboratory setting
• General molecular and cellular biology experience (e.g., cell culture, western, enzymatic assays, ELISAs)
• Prior experience supporting lab management, ordering, or ensuring lab safety
• Highly self-motivated, with strong problem-solving skills
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly for documenting experimental methods and results
• Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment, adjusting quickly to shifting priorities, timelines, and program changes
• Attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software

Preferred:

• Prior experience leading lab management or operations
• Oncology, autoimmune, or metabolic research experience
• Demonstrated experience developing and enforcing laboratory safety and regulatory requirements
• Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture techniques
• Experience with common cell-based assays (CellTiter-Glo, MTT, etc), in vitro assay development or drug treatment study design
• Proficiency with the following scientific equipment: plate readers, flow cytometry, live cell imagers
• Familiarity with laboratory data platforms (e.g., CDD Vault, GraphPad Prism, TIBCO Spotfire), a LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System), and basic coding/scripting (e.g., R, Python)
