Lake Specialist

About the Department

The Lake Specialist is a field-based role responsible for the health, aesthetics, and ecological balance of the three public lakes, Higgins, Brandt, and Townsend. Operating under minimal supervision, this specialist acts as an environmental steward, applying scientific and technical solutions to manage aquatic weeds, monitor water quality, manage lake profilers, and deliver exceptional service to clients. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold) on uneven terrain and from small boats. Must be a confident swimmer
This is a non-benefited, hourly position. Employee is limited to working 1,000 hours in the position during a calendar year. This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

• Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
• Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.  
• Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

While roster positions do not include benefits, they are often a pathway to full-time, benefited employment with the City. Many of our current full-time employees started in roster positions, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity as a potential first step in your career with us.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
  •  "OR" an equivalent of 3 years of high school education "AND" 3 years of related work experience
• Valid Driver's License with clean driving record
• 1–2+ years of experience in lake/pond management, landscaping, pest control, or commercial aquatic herbicide application.
• Ability to obtain a State Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (Aquatic Category) within the first 6 months of employment

Other Qualifications

Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm / approximately 19 hrs per week
No Overtime or after-work hours / no call-back
