Short Summary:
Thunderbird is expanding beyond email with Thunderbolt, an open-source AI client. We’re looking for a Staff Design Engineer to shape the product experience as it transitions into enterprise use cases, focusing on product design, front-end engineering, and AI-assisted development.

Responsibilities:
- Build functional prototypes and product experiments directly in the Thunderbolt codebase.
- Translate ambiguous product ideas and user workflows into clear, usable product experiences.
- Define interaction patterns for AI-powered features.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to enhance prototyping and implementation.
- Collaborate with product, design, engineering, and enterprise teams.
- Improve usability, accessibility, and consistency of the user experience.
- Develop reusable components and design-system elements.

Requirement:
- 10+ years of relevant experience in design engineering or a closely related role.
- Strong front-end engineering skills, including modern JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Experience designing AI-enabled product experiences.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Portfolio demonstrating design-to-code execution and product experience improvements.
