Short Summary:
Affirm is building its own bank and is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to be a technical anchor for a small, AI-native team that owns the systems behind Affirm's bank. This role involves setting technical direction, owning complex problems, and shaping a new business from its very first systems.

Responsibilities:
- Set technical direction across the bank's systems.
- Own the medium-to-long-term technical strategy for the bank's core surfaces.
- Personally design, build, integrate, and operate high-stakes pieces of the stack.
- Establish patterns and standards for a small team.
- Lead vendor selection and ownership.
- Define the integration boundary with Affirm Inc.
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit.
- Set operational posture for the bank's systems.
- Communicate technical strategy to bank executives and other stakeholders.
- Mentor peers and contribute to hiring.

Requirement:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of owning high-stakes systems.
- Comfortable owning ambiguity and making tough prioritization calls.
- Experience leveraging AI tools for development.
- Deep systems thinking across public cloud infrastructure and data platforms.
- Regulated-environment experience in banking or similar fields.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
