Position: IT Specialist — Infrastructure & Network Support
City: Remote, Belarus, Ukraine
Work Format: Fully Remote

About the Role:
We are looking for an IT Specialist to support day-to-day operations across our Linux and Windows environments. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role covering server and workstation administration, user and access management, our Proxmox VE virtualization platform, and the maintenance of our network security infrastructure, including Fortinet firewalls and MikroTik routers. You'll help keep systems reliable, secure, and running smoothly for the whole organization, working closely with the IT Manager and wider team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain Linux servers (Ubuntu/Debian or similar) — patching, backups, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Administer Windows Server and Windows desktop environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, and endpoint management.
- Manage user accounts and access rights across systems: onboarding/offboarding, role-based access control, and periodic access reviews.
- Configure, monitor, and maintain VPN and remote access solutions to ensure secure connectivity for staff.
- Configure and maintain Fortinet firewalls (FortiGate) — security policies, VPN tunnels, and threat monitoring.
- Configure and maintain MikroTik routers and switches — routing, VLANs, and network troubleshooting.
- Manage and maintain our Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) infrastructure — provisioning VMs/containers, storage, backups, and cluster health.
- Provide day-to-day IT operations support: diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues for staff.
- Maintain system and network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
- Monitor system and network health, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues before they cause downtime.
- Implement and enforce IT security best practices, including patch management, backup integrity, and incident response.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers for hardware, software, and connectivity needs.
Requirements:
- 2-4 years of experience in a hands-on IT infrastructure or systems administration role.
- Working knowledge of Linux system administration (command line, services, basic scripting, security hardening).
- Working knowledge of Windows Server and Windows desktop administration, including Active Directory.
- Experience with user and access management, including identity and access control best practices.
- Experience configuring and maintaining VPNs and remote access solutions.
- Practical experience with Fortinet (FortiGate) firewalls.
- Practical experience with MikroTik RouterOS devices.
- Experience managing virtualized environments with Proxmox VE (VMs, containers, storage, backups).
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and switching.
- Solid troubleshooting skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a service-oriented mindset for supporting non-technical staff.
Nice to Have:
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Linux+/Network+/Security+, MTCNA/MTCRE, Fortinet NSE, or Microsoft certifications.
- Experience with scripting/automation (Bash, PowerShell) for routine administration tasks.
- Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Experience supporting a distributed or remote workforce.
